Kecheng's research work can be found in requirements studies, information systems analysis and design, object methods for systems engineering, normative modelling of software agents, e-commerce systems design, agent-based systems for e-commerce, HCI and CSCW. He is a leading researcher in Organisational Semiotics, where one single authored and two jointly edited books by him can be found.

Lily Sun, with a background of computer science, earned a PhD in information requirements for strategic decision support. She has experience in software engineering for educational and commercial applications. Her research interests and recent publications are found in information systems, requirements modelling, IT for strategic management and e-commerce systems.

Michael Evans, with a background in web engineering, has a Ph.D. in distributed information systems. His PhD thesis, 'A Model for Managing Information Flow on the World Wide Web', represents his current research interests: information flow and the semantic web.  He has worked in academia and industry on several large research projects in telecommunications, the web, and e-learning.  Having worked at all levels of the web, from designing new mark-up languages down to the telecommunications protocols that ultimately carry its bits, he is now researching above the web to model the emerging  information flows conveyed by its content.  His research interests lie in the fields of memetics, situation theory, web dynamics, and web semantics.

With a background in visualization, software agents and distributed systems, Penny is currently involved in applying semiotics to systems analysis and design, and to embedding knowledge from this process in AI systems. Particular focus for this work is currently personalization of intelligent buildings. The work takes an agent-based approach to giving the users, and other stakeholders, direct representation in the intelligent operation of a building. The system aims to resolve conflict between the goals of the occupants (in optimizing their work and living conditions), and the building (in reducing energy consumption). Key aspects are the learning of preferences (from occupants) and the elicitation of policy (from all stakeholders). Semiotics is being used to understand the interplay between people and buildings in a general sense, and to discover relevant affordances and associated norms, so that this information can become the knowledge base of the software agents.

Jennifer is doing PhD. Her research areas fall into content management and software engineering. She applies the Organisational Semiotics theory to model domain knowledge and overcome semantic conflicts in order to support content sharing and reuse. She devises a method from the semiotic approach for semantic interoperable content management and has been doing case studies in the area of eLearning for validation.

Khadi researches into Requirement Engineering. She applies Constructivism and Semiotics theories together with Semantic Web and Software Agents techniques to support and facilitate personalization of learning objects stored in heterogeneous and distributed repositories.  Other areas of interests are Grid-based e-learning systems for sharing and syndicating heterogeneous resources and content discovery.

Based on the current multi-agent system for normative organisational modelling, his research goal is about the development of the Norm-Based multi-agents system engine which can help to achieve the proper decision making and system automation.

Dave has recently completed a three-year secondment at the Police IT Organisation (PITO - Systems Architecture Team), where he played a key role in business processes modelling for both streamlining performance and identifying functional requirements for national police systems.

Motivated by his practical experience gained at PITO and (more recently) in the police force, Dave has now registered for a PhD at Reading, and is researching in critical evaluation, selection and extension of business process modelling methods, to achieve process standardisation across the police service. The deliverables should have a theoretical contribution resulting in a generic methodology for process modelling within police forces, as well as informing the ACPO Police Information Systems Strategy implementation work (Programme Valiant).

Prof. Henk Gazendam received his PhD degree in Management and Organization based on his dissertation ôVariety Controls Variety: On the Use of Organization Theories in Information Management? He is a fellow of the Research School Systems, Organisation, and Management at Groningen. He has been active in international research groups, amongst others, Decision Support Systems (IFIP 8.3.), Computational and Mathematical Organization Theory, and Organizational Semiotics. His current research interests are especially in the fields of multi-actor systems and organisational semiotics.

Zhiwu Xie received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He has experience in scientific computing, requirements engineering and information systems analysis and design. His current research is on digital repository interoperability and context-sensitive services.
